Kvadrat Really Textile Tabletop™ in Cotton Sage

A workspace shaped by material thinking

In Aarhus, Denmark, the former industrial harbour district of Sydhavnen is evolving into a new urban neighbourhood. At its centre is TRÆ, a 20-floor timber building by Lendager Architects that brings together new, reused and upcycled materials, from discarded wind turbine blades to bricks, timber and glazing. This considered use of resources continues inside Holmris B8’s new office, where their Recrafted collection includes Kvadrat Really Textile Tabletop™, made from 70% textile waste and 30% waste binder.

At the heart of the office is the adjustable Q20 Recrafted work desk featuring Textile Tabletop™ in Cotton Sage, a muted green tone made from end-of-life uniforms from the Danish Armed Forces. Its colour comes directly from the recycled textile fibres, without added colourants, while a visible oak edge complements the timber and wider material character of the building.

The Recrafted collection by Holmris B8 is centred on finding new applications for surplus and discarded materials. Textile Tabletop™ complements this approach not only through its use of textile waste, but also through documented environmental performance, with the 22 mm tabletop having a carbon footprint of 10.3 kg CO2 per m².

“We have worked closely with Kvadrat for many years, and Kvadrat Really tabletops are an established part of our Recrafted collection. It is a solution we value because it supports our approach to reuse while bringing a distinctive material expression. TRÆ’s focus on using materials from existing waste streams aligns closely with the principles behind both our Recrafted collection and Kvadrat Really, where materials are given new life in a new context.” Benny Mejnert Larsen, Head of Portfolio & Product Development, Holmris B8.

This considered approach to reuse and material application was recognised with Den Grønne Pris at the Building Awards 2024, an award celebrating innovative approaches to climate and environmental responsibility within the Danish construction industry.

The use of Textile Tabletop™ at TRÆ builds on the long-standing relationship between Holmris B8 and Kvadrat Really, united by a shared ambition to challenge conventional ways of using materials. The project demonstrates how this shared approach can shape material choices from the architecture through to the workplace interior.
